2026-08-08
From 2 to 8 August 2026, our student, YIP Harrod (3B), represented Hong Kong at the 3rd International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), held in Astana, Kazakhstan. Held under the patronage of UNESCO, the IOAI is a prestigious global competition that tests the world's brightest secondary school students through a series of rigorous individual and team challenges. This year’s event brought together 466 elite contestants from over 100 countries and territories. The competition subjected participants to a demanding multi-stage evaluation, comprising an at-home development phase followed by two intensive six-hour on-site contest rounds—totalling 12 hours of individual evaluation. Contestants were required to tackle complex AI programming tasks involving machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, and advanced algorithm design. Following months of dedicated preparation, Harrod achieved an outstanding result among top global talents, earning a Bronze Medal. This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to his passion, technical acumen, and commitment to AI, setting a high standard for future global competitions. Overall, the Hong Kong team secured one Gold Medal, two Silver Medals, and two Bronze Medals. Our sincere congratulations go to Harrod and the entire Hong Kong team on their excellent performance.
