Third Staff Development Day

2025-06-02
The Third Staff Development Day on 2 June 2025 brought the teachers a fresh understanding of Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage through fun and experiential activities. After a short briefing on the Yearly Examination schedule, everyone embarked on an amusing journey that stopped first at Di Heen Restaurant, where a Dim Sum Making Workshop was conducted by a dim sum master chef, who disclosed to us the secret to making the shrimps in ‘siu mai’ crisp and firm while demonstrating the procedure of dim sum making. We were excited to try it out and made our first baskets of ‘siu mai’, which we gladly enjoyed during the dim sum lunch that followed. The next stop on the journey was Sam Tung Uk Museum, which was converted from a 200-year-old Hakka walled village house. It was an enriching and inspiring experience as we visited the various intriguing exhibitions, such as the traditional craft of hand-carved mahjong tiles and Chinese lanterns. The day concluded with our last stop at The Mills, the epitome of the revitalization projects in Hong Kong. The former cotton-spinning mills of Nan Fung Textiles is now a cultural hub that includes a non-profit cultural institute, a business incubator and a retail area. The programme on that day has equipped us with an authentic experience and deeper understanding of the local culture that we can’t wait to share with our students when the chance comes.
