Four of our students achieved outstanding results in a recent competition, securing the prestigious First Class Award for their innovative work. The event, the AiTLE x GEG-HK x HKtag x Google Hong Kong: Competition on System Development using AppSheet & OpenData for a Smart Society powered by AI, concluded at the Hong Kong Communication and Computer Festival.
The students' journey began in mid-April with a series of three workshops covering Open Data, Google Gemini, and Google AppSheet. These sessions provided them with the foundational knowledge required to develop their application. They sourced public datasets from catalogues such as Data.gov.hk and the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI) portal. Utilising Google AppSheet, a no-code development platform, they created a functional prototype that integrated Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) from these data sources and Google Gemini. This impressive project earned them a place among the top ten finalists.
As finalists, the team was invited to an exclusive workshop at Google's Hong Kong headquarters for further inspiration and guidance. This enriching experience enabled them to make significant enhancements to their application, culminating in a public presentation at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), where they delivered a polished and persuasive pitch to the judging panel.
