Visit to Exhibition of Yayoi Kusama 1945 to Now

The Visual Arts Department organised a visit to the M+ museum for S2 to S5
students on 28 Dec 2022. Participants visited the exhibition of ‘Yayoi Kusama:
1945 to Now’. The artist was an icon of abstract expressionism. Meeting her
signature dotted art sculptures definitely caught our fascination. We followed a
professional guide whilst taking a close peek at Kusama’s creations over the
years, such as paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, and archival
materials. With her self-portrait, students were aware that the presentation of
‘self’ did not necessarily feature a realistic depiction of one’s appearance. Any
objects related to one could also represent one’s ‘self’. The concept of the ‘out-
of-the-box’ surely gave them inspiration for creating their own work. Students’
feedback was that it was a great experience and they hoped that they could
visit other exhibitions at M+ in the future
